I’m Rachel, otherwise known as the Mrs. around here. Hickory Hill is home to my family. Home. It’s the heart of my purpose and my favorite place to be. Chatting around the table, reading on the porch swing, playing in the garden…yes, yes and yes, please! Home is all of these things but for the woman who works at home it is also the daily grind, the threat of monotony, and the non-negotiable need for intentional living. For me, this need to be intentional became apparent when I lost my mother to cancer several years ago. Time is so fleeting. It was then, that time with my people became my top priority. I learned that what we put into and onto our bodies can steal that time, and so, a farmer was born.
The farm is my business and I love my work (although it was quite unexpected for the girl who dreamt of working in the city). I am both CEO and the servant of my family and our farm. Truthfully, I couldn’t do any of this without them (the people or the beasts). Being a wife and mother for over two decades has brought me great joy. In a world that doesn’t always seem to place value on the voice of a housewife, I feel the need to assert mine. I am a traditional Mrs. living in a modern-day world, and these are (some of) my thoughts.
